"We must not see any person as an abstraction.
Instead, we must see in every person a universe with its own secrets,
with its own treasures, with its own sources of anguish,
and with some measure of triumph."
-- Elie Wiesel
Welcome! My name is Ben Gentry and I am a 7th/8th grade ELA teacher serving my fourth year here at Starmount Middle School. In my classes, students are expected to gain a greater understanding and deeper appreciation of the English language through reading/writing activities geared toward specific themes we developed county-wide for our Middle School ELA courses. We will develop vocabulary weekly through a program that puts emphasis on root word families and gain a deeper understanding of grammar by examining sentence patterns, structures, and types. My ultimate goal is to help students develop the skills in reading and writing necessary to become life long learners beyond the classroom and to prepare them for high school.
In my class we are...
Learning new things everyday
Everyone works together
Always prepared for class
Doing our very best
Encouraging and helpful
Respectful to others
