Brief Biography

I was born and raised in the small town of Fonda, NY. Our area of upstate New York was full of dairy farmers including my grandfather. Our town was similar to Yadkin County in many ways, which helped me to adjust to a move to this area pretty easily. I have two brothers and a sister. All of us played soccer, basketball, and baseball or softball at Fonda-Fultonville Central School.
I attended community college after high school without a career goal in mind. After receiving some support and guidance from some of my former high school teachers, I decided to study social studies education at Oneonta State University. I graduated in 1999, but was unable to secure a full-time teaching position for the upcoming school year. After substitute teaching for a year, I decided to apply for positions up and down the whole East Coast. When Yadkin County called at the beginning of August, I decided to give it a shot, loaded the car, and moved to North Carolina.
Teaching Career
I taught seventh and eighth grade social studies (and a few years of physical education) at West Yadkin from 2000 to 2009. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at West Yadkin. The friendly, compassionate staff there truly felt like family. I helped coach girls basketball and baseball while at West Yadkin, while also volunteering time to coach recreational soccer teams in the fall. I also sponsored chess teams and the student council at West Yadkin.
I moved over to Starmount Middle when it opened in 2009. Once again, I found myself surrounded by caring, capable colleagues that have become family. I've always been comfortable in navy and orange considering the fact that I grew up in Syracuse country as a fan of the Orange. I taught seventh grade for the first four years here before moving to the eighth grade hall. I have coached girls soccer and baseball while at SMS and I have continued to sponsor the student council as well.
I am married and have two children, Liam and Lucy. With my wife, Mandy, working in Charlotte, we live in Troutman to split the difference in travel. We have one dog named Bentley. Surprisingly, most of my family has followed me to North Carolina over the years. My sister, also a teacher, lives in Ronda, while my parents and middle brother live in Catawba, NC.
