I am proudly retired from the United States Navy. During my 20 years in the service I visited many places throughout the world that otherwise the opportunity would never present itself. I joined the service right out of high school for many reasons. The two most important: I believe that this country is the greatest and worth fighting for. The other was to take advantage of the GI Bill and get my education.
The military is a great place to learn responsibility and further your education: Both On the Job Training and College. While in the service I earned an Associate Degree. Once retired I attended Marshall University to earn a Bachelor Degree in Education. (Yes, Marshall is the school the movie was made about the plane crash - We Are Marshall)
This will be my 21st year of teaching. My first four years were in Winston Salem and the remainder in Yadkin County. The first school in this county was West Yadkin Elementary and have been at Starmount Middle since it first opened.
I feel very fortunate that I have been able to have two full careers. At the end of this school year I will have over 41 years of government service.
When not at school I enjoy spending time with family.
