COVID-19 Testing/School Based Screening

Starmount Middle SBS Consent Form

February 21, 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Based on recent changes to the StrongSchoolsNC Toolkit, students and staff exposed to Covid-19 at school, in the community, or at home will no longer be excluded from school as long as they are not symptomatic.  Additionally, students must remain fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications.   In light of these changes, we will be offering a school-based screening program for parents/guardians who would like their student to be screened for Covid-19 after an exposure.  To participate, you can go onto the district or school website and fill out the consent form for your student’s school.  Once the form is completed, your student will be given a rapid antigen test on days three and five after exposure.  The results will be reported back to you the same day.  These results will also be reported to the local health department.

We will continue to provide diagnostic testing at each school site. The turnaround time for these tests is improving in most situations and we are seeing most results within 48 hours.

As we discontinue contact tracing, feel free to reach out to members of your school health team if you are concerned about your student’s exposure to a person who is positive. They will be happy to answer any questions while maintaining the privacy of those who are sick.  Also, feel free to contact your school nurse, principal, or me if you have any questions.
